Tottenham are leading the race to sign Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke as the Mirror understands that the North-London club are planning a summer move for the player. And Benteke’s agent has further fueled the speculation by claiming that his client is ready to move to the next level.
Benteke arrived at Villa Park after scoring 19 goals in 41 games for Belgian club Genk last season and the striker has continued his good form to notch up 11 goals in 23 league appearances. The Belgian international has been the sole bright light in a rather disappointing season for Villa and has refused to rule out a transfer in the summer.
His agent has been quoted saying,”Christian has shown that he can play in England so why not take the step up to the next level if the opportunity is there? At the end of the season, interested clubs will talk to Villa, but it has to be right for Villa, the buying club and Christian. If all three parties are agreeable, something could happen, but right now his focus is on Villa, helping them stay in the Premier League.”
Tottenham have been left short-handed in the strikers department after the injury to Jermain Defoe while Emmanuel Adebayor has been a shadow of himself from last season. The club tabled a deadline day bid for Internacional striker Leandro Damiao last month but were unsuccessful. With Damiao indicating a desire to move to Italy, Tottenham could firm up their interest in Benteke at the end of the season.

The only possible reason Levy could be interested in Benteke is he thinks he might be able to screw Villa and get him on the cheap. We all know Levy’s priority is CHEAP before quality. Benteke is not that good as he just looks good in a piss poor team and he definetly is not good enough for Spurs. Dalmiao is much much better and would probably go for the same price Villa want for Benteke plus Dalmiao is a much better all round striker and can play up front as a lone striker. So don’t waste your time Levy.
Benteke should be priced at £20m some mug will pay it. Remember Downing??
Both Benteke’s previous manager and his agent are talking up the sale saying he should set his sights higher. I expect if Benteke was to break his leg in the last game of the season they would be more than happy for Villa to carry on paying his salary until he regains fitness and once more proves his worth.
