Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur’s quest for a new striker has reportedly taken them all the way to Italy where according to the Telegraph, Spurs appear to be zeroing in on AS Roma forward Erik Lamela.
The 21 year old Argentine has been capped just once for his national side, but had a very impressive season with the Serie A club last season, scoring 15 goals in 33 appearances. The youngster is unlikely to come cheap though with Roma having acquired him for a little over 10 million pounds from River Plate, and are unlikely to be keen to sell him considering his prodigious talent.
The North London club also hope that hiring Franco Baldini as the club’s new Director of Football would help their cause with the Italian having worked with the player at Roma where he used to be the General Manager. Spurs also believe that the appointment of Baldini would persuade Andre Villas-Boas to prolong his stay at Tottenham amidst increasing interest from Paris St. Germain, who are reportedly all set to pay the manager’s 10 million pound release clause and bring him on board to replace the departing Carlo Ancelotti.
