United close gap after controversy at Stamford Bridge.

It was a truly exciting and entertaining game at Stamford Bridge at the weekend, But It was Manchester United who came out on top and closed the gap between them and Chelsea.

Sir Alex Fergusons men got a great start and went 2-0 up after only twelve minutes from strikes from Van Persie and an own-goal by blues defender David Luiz.

But with only a few minutes before half time, a Juan Mata free kick got Chelsea back into the game and shortly after the break their comeback was complete after Ramires headed in the equalizer to make it 2-2.

Then the controversy really started as Chelsea right-back Branislav Ivanovic stupidly brought down united winger Ashley Young just outside the box and was ultimately given a straight red for being the last man.

Shortly after that striker Fernando Torres was given a second yellow card for an apparent simulation, which could go either way on whether you think he dived or not.

Yet that wasn’t the end of the controversy as united substitute Javier Hernandez scored a well taken goal to clinch the win, but he seemed to be offside when the ball was played.

In a game of such magnitude, those decisions ultimately cost Chelsea the win and now United are only one point behind the League leaders.

It was a great spectacle to watch and it was a shame that it had been ruined by some contentious decisions, but both teams clearly have some defensive frailties and that needs to be resolved quickly.

On the other hand they have some great attacks which will get them out of trouble on many occasions this season, and will ultimately keep both teams in the race for the League.

I thoroughly enjoyed proceedings at Stamford Bridge and hope both teams continue to play some entertaining stuff.
