The Daily Mail reports that Everton are keeping tabs on Rangers’ striker Steven Naismith after the player’s declaration of wanting to leave the club. The 25 year old refused to sign a contract with the New Company that have bought Rangers. The club are already facing a battle to play in the top flight next term after reportedly six fellow SPL sides have joined the ‘no’ camp as Charles Green (owner of Newco Rangers) aims to achieve an 8-4 majority to confirm top flight status. Naismith doesn’t want to be part of the new setup and has supposedly become a free agent.
Matheiu Flamini has performed a surprisingly quick U-turn as AC Milan announced that the midfielder had signed a 12-month extension at the club, days after being released following the expiration of his contract. The 28 year old’s decision will seemingly have an effect on Alberto Aquilani’s future as Milan are now under no pressure to sort out matters, thus placing the ball firmly in Liverpool’s court.·Brendan Rodgers has indicated that he will give all players a chance to prove themselves and with not many suitors around for the crocked midfielder, Anfield might continue to be his forced residence.
The managerial merry-go-round in the English Midlands continues after Birmingham City announced the appointment of Lee Clark as their new manager. The Blues have gone for a young manager to replace the departed Chris Hughton, who joined Norwich City recently, and the 39 year old Clark comes with great credentials after spending four relatively successful years at Huddersfield. With two top quality keepers in Ben Foster and Jack Butland at St.Andrews, one of Clark’s most crucial assignments will no doubt be to try and convince one of them to stay.
West Brom are planning a move for Tottenham left-back Danny Rose suggest reports in·TalkSPORT. Rose has been at White Hart Lane since his move from Leeds United in 2007. However, with Benoit Assou-Ekotto being the first choice at the club, the 21 year-old has failed to find a place in Spurs’ playing eleven. After Nicky Shorey was released by West Brom last month, the Hawthorns have a vacancy that the youngster could be keen on filling.
Stoke City’s bid to land Wolves winger Matt Jarvis has taken a hit after the relegated club’s Chief Executive, Jez Moxey, told the Express and Star that they weren’t in talks with Stoke over the Englishman. Stoke were reported to have completed an £8m deal for the 26 year old last week but as things stand, the winger remains a Championship player at Molineux.
Paul Lambert’s reign at Aston Villa is set to begin with the signing of Feyenord midfielder Karim El Ahmadi as the Mirror report that Villa will part with around £3m for the 27-year old’s services. The Moroccan International will add much needed defensive cover in the midfield, filling the void left by leukemia patient Stiliyan Petrov.
Ex-Liverpool manager, Rafa Benitez’s next job could be at Sampdoria claim the Daily Mail after the Italian club’s owner revealed that the Spaniard was one of the candidates being considered for the managerial vacancy. Benitez doesn’t have too many happy memories from his previous stint in the Serie A with Inter Milan but since Sampdoria were only recently promoted to the top division, the expectations will be significantly lower than the one he faced at the San Siro.
Stoke City are reportedly keen on bringing MLS club Houston Dynamo’s centre-back Geoff Cameron to the Premier League. The president of the 26-year old’s club has stated, “I would say some dialogue has opened up in terms of what it might take to get it done. Right now there’s just initial dialogue that’s starting up.” The versatile player hasn’t been shy to declare his interest in a move, and said, “I would love England. I’ve always wanted to play there.··I think just overall the soccer there and the fan experience and just everything in general would be great.” (Stoke Sentinel)
Although Didier Drogba confirmed last week that he would be joining Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua, new reports suggested that the Ivorian was planning to open talks with Spanish giants Barcelona. However, club president Sandro Rossell has come forward to dismiss the rumours and told the Mirror, “I don’t know anything of Drogba.” The player’s agents also tweeted, “Drogba to Barca story complete nonsense. As we told you he joins Shanghai in July.” With both the club and the 34 year-old’s representatives denying the links, the striker could well be assumed to be headed to China this summer and that ridiculous rumour linking him to Barcelona be put away for 6 months at the very least.
AC Milan star Alexandre Pato has admitted in an interview with the Sun that he would love to make a switch to the Premier League in the future. However, the 22 year-old did clarify that he would honour his contract with the Serie A giants which runs till 2014. The Brazil international will travel to London for the Olympics later this year and told the Sun, “I love English football. My priority is to finish my contract in Milan. And then afterwards, who knows?”
