Liverpool striker Fabio Borini has credited teammates Simon Mignolet and Jordan Henderson for helping him choose a move to Sunderland on loan this summer. The 22 year old Italian striker is quoted as having told Sunderland’s official website: “I asked them a few things about Sunderland, about the training ground, the fans and where I should live. They gave me some advice and obviously Jordan is from Sunderland, so it’s his home, and Simon was really happy for me to come here because he said it would be the right place for me.”
Meanwhile it appears that Liverpool missed out on signing Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld because his young compatriot Thibaut Courtois asked him to join Atletico Madrid instead according to reports in the Daily Star. Alderweireld said, “Courtois is naturally very happy with my arrival. In the end I am coming to ‘his Atletico’. He said positive things to me as I was studying the offer. He said it was a club with great fans and that he was very happy playing at the Calderon.”
While Liverpool did its late defender shopping on deadline day, buying Sakho and Ilori, it appears German giants Schalke were waiting ready to sell their Greek prodigy Kyriakos Papadopoulos according to reports in Kicker, but an offer from the Reds never arrived.
We’re not sure whether it is Daniel Sturridge’s red hot form, or Brendan Rodgers’ way of punishing Luis Suarez for his behaviour last month, but the Guardian reports that the Uruguayan striker will be deployed on the wing on his return to the Liverpool side on the conclusion of his mega 10 game suspension.
